“Ifadat al-Maram” in Nursi’s Signs Stylistic study

Abstract

At a time when the stylistic study seeks to identify the linguistic means that give a text or speech its distinctive features and distinguishing characteristics, the stylistic researcher is also concerned with revealing the aesthetic values in the text and their meanings, and for that goal he uses a number of procedures in analyzing the discourse, whatever its type.. In that article that is in our hands, the researcher sought to study the text “Ifadat al-Maram” from the book “Isharat al-I’jaz” by Badi al-Zaman Nursi. The text is exquisite in its style and unique in its wording. In it, Nursi discussed the reasons that led him to compile his book, and also revealed his intended goal and desired aim. The research was based on two objectives: The first is theoretical, presenting the concept of style linguistically and terminologically on the one hand, and reviews the types of style, its characteristics, and aspects of its use, along with the representation of each type on the other hand. The second requirement is applied and deals with the analysis of the text of the lesson’s benefit and the analysis of the pause at its phonetic, lexical and syntactic levels. This was followed by a conclusion with the most important results of the research.
