Medical Terms in AHMAD Mukhtar Omar's "Mu'jam al-Lugha al-Arabiya al-Mu'asirah" a Study in Light of Semantic Relations Theory

Abstract

Ahmet Muhtar Omer’s Mu'cemu'l-Luğati'l-Arabiyyeti'l-Muâsıra which has become prominent among contemporary linguists is one of the most distinguished outcomes of contemporary Arabic lexicon studies that are conducted via groupwork. The fundamental purpose of this study is to assemble the expressions in the field of medicine in the above-mentioned dictionary and categorize them based on their semantic fields. Upon giving information on inter-word semantic relations, this study examines the semantic relations among the expressions in the field of medicine which have been classified according to their semantic fields. The semantic relations among these expressions in the field of medicine are discussed under the titles of the ones in the same field and different fields. This study also presents the statistical data which has been obtained during the process.
