Abstract

This research aims to discuss the image of the night as the tool of imagery that enables us to discover the psychological world of Salah Abdel-Sabour. He uses the image of the night according to his psychological state.  He uses the image of the night as the time of reflection and contemplation of the universe and life، as the cause of sorrows and worries، as the source of pleasure where lovers meet، and as the symbol of death and the end of life cycle. The image of the night in Salah Abdel-Sabour's poems is characterized by expressive and evocative values that express his inner and outer world. In addition، it expresses his attitude towards time because of the implicit connotations in his poetic writings. This research proves that the image of the night in Salah Abdel-Sabour's poetry is the most profound in comparison to his Arab predecessors. This is due to the Western poetic tools and influences that affected his poetic writings. This research adopts the technical method in the poetic analysis and the descriptive method in tracing، analyzing، and interpreting the images of the night.
