Abstract:

Preaching is a human activity that is driven by religion and revolves around it. It has two purposes, either as a reminder or as a fear. As such, it does not mean that it is corrective, because it may be covered in ideology and be confused with politics. Therefore, it becomes a tool for achieving other goals. In this article, we have tried to address the limits of the overlapping of preaching and politics in the sermons of the “the khawarij” and some rulers of “bany omaya” in the person of Hajjaj bin Yusuf al-Thaqafi. We have sought to point out the function of preaching in political discourse and its roles, using the old rhetoric as outlined by Aristotle in his discourse, which included components of origins that are respectively Etos, patos, and Logos. we have confined ourselves to their first component and invested in the second component to monitor how the preacher builds an image of himself or his group under the axis of ethos between ideological conviction and contradicting the statement of action . On the other hand, we have tried to monitor the rush of some of these speeches. We concluded that preaching is used in political discourse to legitimize and acclaim, and that it often slips off course and its employment becomes crude.
